Acorn CPD was founded by Catherine Butler, a qualified counsellor, psychotherapist and clinical supervisor, with a commitment to offering thoughtful, high-quality Continuing Professional Development for counsellors, psychotherapists and other mental health practitioners.
Catherine has extensive experience in facilitating and organising CPD workshops, and has worked with highly respected speakers including Graham Music, Christiane Sanderson, Gwen Adshead and Brett Kahr. Through Acorn CPD, she brings together this experience, clinical knowledge and commitment to reflective learning, offering training opportunities that are clinically relevant, professionally rigorous and warmly held.
Continuing Professional Development is an ethical and professional responsibility. For counsellors and psychotherapists, CPD is a requirement of membership with professional bodies such as BACP, UKCP, BABCP and others. More than simply meeting required hours, CPD supports us to practise safely, ethically and with ongoing awareness of the changing needs of the people we work with.
Catherine understands that CPD is not simply a professional requirement, but an essential part of remaining alive, responsive and ethical in our work. As therapists, we meet a wide range of clients, each bringing different histories, identities, relationships, experiences and emotional worlds. Continuing to develop our understanding of what it is to be human helps us to practise with greater depth, sensitivity and care.
Acorn CPD offers training that supports practitioners to keep learning, reflecting and growing throughout their professional lives. Our workshops create space to engage with important clinical themes such as trauma, couples counselling, sex and relationships, and the many complex dynamics that may emerge in the therapy room.
Alongside her private practice, Catherine teaches across the psychodynamic counselling training programme at Basingstoke Counselling Service, from introductory courses through to qualification. She is also a clinical supervisor on the qualifying Diploma training, supporting both trainee and qualified therapists in their clinical and professional development.
